Dealing With Medical Knowledge: Computers in Clinical Decision Making (The Language of Science)
Published in Hardcover by Plenum Pub Corp (February, 1995)
Authors: Tibor Deutsch, Ewart Carson, and Endre Ludwig
Average review score:

Excellent "Medical" Decision Making Text
I have been using this book for several years as one of the primary texts for the graduate students in a decision making class in the informatics program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
It is the best single survey of decision making in healthcare that I have found. I would recommend this as a first book for those with and interest in this field. Other texts would be needed

Dinosaurs (The Nature Company Discoveries Library)
Published in Hardcover by Time Life (May, 1999)
Authors: Carson Creagh, Simone End, Nature Company, and Angela Milner
Average review score:

My kids disagree with the Horn Book review
My five-year-old twins love this book, as do I. I've seen a lot of dinosaur books, and this one stands out for its vivid illustrations and informative, well organized text. It gives just enough detail to provide a good overview of dinosaurs, and covers just about all the topics young kids could want to know. A couple of the pictures are a bit scary for the kids. This isn't a book we read at bedtime (for that, I highly recommend "I'm A Big Brontosaurus" if you can find it, with its lots of friendly dinosaurs and only a couple moderately fierce ones). But this is still the one that really got my kids interested in LEARNING about dinosaurs and the differences among them.

The Donegal Pictures

Authors: Rachel Giese and Ciaran Carson
Average review score:

The Heart and Soul of Donegal
Those of us fortunate enough to have seen the Donegal highlands, will find themselves lost once more in the beauty of her mountains and valleys. Combining the poetic grace of Ciaran Carson with the photography of Rachel Giese has produced something magical in this book!

Like the Donegal highlands themselves, which must be seen to be believed, this lovely journey of mind and eye will nourish your soul with images of mountain and mist in all seasons. If you can't be there in person, this book could be the next best thing!

Encyclopedia of Drugs, Alcohol, and Addictive Behavior (Encyclopedia of Drugs Alcohol and Addictive Behavior, 2nd Ed, Four Volume Set)
Published in Hardcover by MacMillan Library Reference (May, 2001)
Author: Rosalyn Carson-Dewitt
Average review score:

Perfect Resource for Non-Experts
I was one of the Assistant Editors for this set of Encyclopedias so I read a good percentage of the articles. This set covers a good range of topics, and is written primarily for non-experts. The list of contributing authors reads like a Who's Who of the field. It's a great starting resource for High School and College Students interested in various research topics. It carries a pretty hefty price tag, however, so buying this is probably not a good idea for the average consumer. Definitely recommend it to your local libraries though!

The Essential Grandparent: A Guide for Making a Difference
Published in Paperback by Health Communications (May, 1996)
Author: Lillian Carson
Average review score:

A very important contribution to contemporary life.
This is a specific, honest, clear and easily readable book. Parents and grandparents alike will appreciate the insights afforded through Dr. Carson's unique ability to concisely capture common experience and problems. There was a dearth of material relating to the special bond between grandparents and grandchildren, which happily has now been filled through this work. Bravo!

Farewell Discourses and Final Prayer of Jesus: An Exposition of John 14-17
Published in Hardcover by Baker Book House (June, 1981)
Author: D.A. Carson
Average review score:

The book of John opened for the common person
In typical fashion Don Carson has done an outstanding job in bringing the book of John to the common reader. His style is easy to read and his homiletic is right on the mark. His rework of the upper room story is brilliant.

John 14-17, I think is one of the hardest parts of the Bible. The discourse ebbs and flows covering many topics, and is esoteric and Jesus language, presumptous in parts. Don Carson does the background work of that presumption for you. But, typical of the Book of John and my understanding of it, I'm sure I'll have a different opinion in a months time.

Fast-Talking Dolphin
Published in Hardcover by Dodd Mead (September, 1979)
Author: Carson. Davidson
Average review score:

Great story on a dolphin in unusual circumstances!
"I don't care much for people -
They talk all the time -
What they say is a bore -
And they can't even rhyme"!

Eric Anderson can't believe his eyes - or his ears! What is a dolphin, a rhyme-talking dolphin, doing in a New England trout pond? Simple. Wallingford Ullingham Lowell, the Third - Wallingford for short - claims he was on his way to a big oceanography conference. Somehow, he fell out of his plane into the pond near the Anderson's farm. As Eric and the exasperating Wallingford become friends, Eric's life gets crazier and crazier. Then mean Mr. Benson, who owns the pond, finds out about Wallingford! Can Eric save Wallingford? Will Wallingford ever leave that trout pond alive? This excerpt taken from the cover due to no other reviews. This is a cute book with neat drawings too.

First language

apparentexcellence
Ciaran Carson is a man driven mad by words. They bounce around his head, jig and reel until they feel the click of sound and then the meaning drunkingly meanders out. I have read all his work to date and I think that this book is a kind of plateau for him, after this book he shortens his line. For American readers comming to him for the first time, imagine C.K. Stead crossed with Baudelaire, drunk on powers whiskey, cursing the godhead Joyce.

Folksy and Fun!
Been awhile since you read a romance that will make you laugh out loud? Well, look no further. This book is a page-turner, and you'll love Ms. Carson's command of folksy phrases. And she does a fine job with romantic tension as well! Enjoy!
